Dwarf hamster is the smallest kind in the hamster family. They usually measure about 4
inches long and weight about 40 to 60 grams when they grow into adult. They come in
different colors too; black, brown, grey and pearl white depending on their species and
origins. Active, cute, funny and friendly behaviour make them a great pet for people of all ages.
Their lifespan varies from 1.5 year to 3 years.
Dwarf hamsters have many cute sleeping gestures.
One of the unique features of hamsters are the storage pouches on both sides of the mouth.
Usually they store food in the pouches rather than eat it where the food is found, unless they
consider the place is safe enough. This explains why we often see hamsters gobbling up food real
fast, as if they don't need to chew! If the food is too big for them to put into the pouches,
such as a piece of dog biscuit, they would drag it to a safe spot by their mouth. It is funny
enough to see one tugging around a 2-inches-long dog biscuit in the cage. Finally as they reach a
safe place, they would use one hand to wiggle the pouch, on the same side, to get the food out, and
then hold the piece with both hands and consume it like monkeys, or us (human). (^_^)
